Continue to Build a Grassroots Movement to Force Adoption of Single-Payer Reform

“So an illegal alien goes to the emergency room, who’s paying for it? The American taxpayer.
Emergency care is already legally guaranteed to everyone because of a law signed by Ronald Reagan in 1986, which requires hospitals to provide it regardless of the patient’s ability to pay, citizenship, or legal status. It’s to ensure people aren’t dying in the parking lot.
Caroline Levitt seems to prefer that. But she and other Republicans blaming immigrants is a distraction from what the shutdown fight is actually about.
The GOP is really trying to weaponize hatred of immigrants to steal from working people even more. Democrats are fighting to keep health care for 22 million Americans on ACA subsidies, something that was taken away in the big beautiful bill. Without them, costs for health insurance for low and middle income Americans enrolled in the ACA were more than double, and most live in red states.
Republicans taking away these subsidies does nothing to fix our broken health care system. That’s because they really only have concepts of a plan.
The playbook is to blame minorities for something they have nothing to do with, steal more of your money to give tax breaks to the rich, and make you more reliant on your employer for health care.
Here’s a plan: Tax the rich and give us universal health care, which would be less expensive for a person, and would result in better health outcomes.”
